Sex Addiction: Don’t Let It Happen To You!

12 04 2010

Of all the reasons to go to rehab in my opinion this is the silliest. Countless celebrities have had to deal with this debilitating disease.

In case you have been hiding under a rock and were not informed I was going to go over a few of these troubled celebraties.

Tiger Woods:

Well EVERYONE has heard about this one. Back around Thanksgiving Tiger wrecked his car which ended up exposing his affair with tens of women. He claimed he had a problem so he went to rehab for sex addiction.

Charlie Sheen:

He has had multiple affairs and has claimed to have slept with over 3000 women. THREE THOUSAND! Of course he may be exaggerating slightly (some sources actually have him at 5000) but even if he is anywhere close to that it’s unbelievable. He has announced he will not be coming back to his CBS sitcom. Could this be because of his addiction?

Jesse James:

James is/was the husband of Sandra Bullock. He cheated on the gorgeous actress. She is at the highest point in her career but has home issues. I guess thats what happens when it turns out you married a sex addict. Oh and here is a picture of the woman he slept with.

Sunny Relationships

5 04 2010

We recently watched an episode of “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” in class. I was shocked at how many people had never seen an episode before. Upon doing some research for my script I ran across some interesting snippets of information.

Ok I’ve known for a while now that “Waitress” (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) is married to “Charlie Kelly” (played by Charlie Day). This is very ironic because on the show Charlie is obsessed with her character. He is constantly stalking her.

I was wondering if “Sweet Dee” (Kaitlin Olson) was romantically involved with someone on the show. It turns out the show’s creator Rob McElhenney (who plays “Mac” on the show) married Olson in 2008. More excitingly the couple is now expecting their frist child.

This would leave “Dennis” (Glenn Howerton) to be the bachelor on the show. Alas, Dennis is married to actress Jill Latiano. Jill has guest starred on “Sunny”, so she is not left out of this family affair.

The most interesting of all of the couples is Mac and Dee (McElhenney and Olson) because of the pregnancy. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out in the story of Sunny.

Oh Hulu

29 03 2010

So I have been bored lately and watching television is one of my favorite things to do. I have pretty much exhausted what I can watch. I’ve caught up on Dexter. I’ve seen every episode of every sitcom I have ever cared about.

So recently I have ventured into the documentary section of Hulu. This is a direct result of our class reminding me of how much I love documentaries.

I have a problem with documentaries though. I am easily swayed and affected by them within the first hour after viewing. Most of the documentaries I watch deal with issues I’ve never taken a stance. This is because I am too lazy to educate myself enough to have a valid opinion. Film just has a way of convincing me of something. At the same time I know in fact that what I am watching is skewed and sometimes fabricated. I calm down after about an hour and come back to a reasonable state of mind. Only then I can form my opinion of what I have just seen.

So with that in mind I just watched (on hulu) “Bowling for Columbine” by Michael Moore and “Michael Moore Hates America” by Mike Wilson respectively.

I have never seen a Michael Moore film. Political documentaries were just not my thing (till NOW!) So I have abstained from discussions about Michael Moore for years…

Well until tonight. I am throwing myself into the ring.

After seeing Moore’s film I noticed my feeling about the issue were not changed but I thought I may have a better understanding of gun violence in America. It also conjured up deep seeded distaste for American media that I have had for a long time.

But that is neither here nor there.

I realize this is out of the scope of this blog but my real issue here is with a celebrity so…

Really, I want to talk about the second film, “Michael Moore Hates America”, which I loved. The film is basically about Mike Wilson  trying to interview Michael Moore about his inaccuracies in his films.

This film really made me not like Michael Moore. The end scene in “Bowling for Columbine” made me not WANT to take him seriously anyway.

“Michael Moore Hates America” does a great job of satirizing Michael Moore’s other films by trying to get in touch with him.

I really don’t like someone who uses guerilla style methods to interview and “expose” people but becomes angry when these same methods are turned on themselves.

As I said before I am really affected by these films for a couple of hours after watching them. I just finished “Michael Moore Hates America” so maybe by morning time my opinion will have changed again.

Anyways I just wanted to see what everyone else thought of Michael Moore. If you have not seen any of his documentaries “Bowling for Columbine” (which won an Oscar), is on Hulu along with “Michael Moore Hates America”. So if you don’t have an opinion, watch a couple of his films and let me know what you think!

May(er)jor Mistake

1 03 2010

It is time for my long awaited return to the blogosphere. Sorry everyone for my absence, but alas I just returned from Vegas and I am here for your reading pleasure.

I wanted to address some of the things in pop culture I have missed in my absence. The first of which is John Mayer and his “stupid mouth”.

Mayer Playing Acoustic Set

Let me start out by saying John Mayer is one of those artists that most people have a clear opinion of. From his twitter to his blog and clever (to some) song lyrics, people love or hate him.

I am a fan. I am actually a pretty big fan. He is one of those artists that I discovered before he made it big. I have not been let down by his music. I’m from Georgia and he started his musical career out of Atlanta. I always like “local” talent.  I understand many people want him to choose whether he is a serious (Jazz) musician (JohnMayer Trio) or the heart throb boy band type (which most of his pop stuff appeals to).

Whatever opinion you hold of Mayer the fact is that he is a very talented guitar player and is constantly in the media.

If you have heard about his recent interview with playboy, you are probably shocked by his scandalous and racist comments. In case you are not in the know, Mr. Mayer spoke of his past relationships with superstars Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson.

“That girl is like crack cocaine to me,” Mayer said of Simpson. “Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm, sexual napalm. Did you ever say, ‘I want to quit my life and just f—ing snort you? If you charged me $10,000 to f–k you, I would start selling all my s–t just to keep f—ing you.’”

The above excerpt is from an interview with Playboy but is taken off the billboard website.

Mayer also made some racist comments that were more shocking. I am not going to post them here because he talks about certain sexual body parts of his not favoring the African American race.

Mayer apologized to his fans on stage at a concert.

So with all of this taken into account I felt what he said and did was very dumb. As a long time fan, his recent involvement in the media game was beginning to annoy me. He became more and more of a tool every day. So in a backwards kind of way if this makes him refocus on his music and stop trying to be “clever” in the media game then maybe this is a good thing.

Creed don’t call it a comeback

22 01 2010

Maybe this isn’t news to anyone else but I was unaware that Creed, from the office, has a band. This should not be not confused with the terrible rock band that is currently trying to stage a comeback.

This Creed:

Look at them suspenders... you sir are an inspiration to us all.

Not this Creed:

Oh Scott Stapp don't look at me that way.

For those of you who do not watch the office. Creed Bratton plays a supporting role in the television show the office.

Oddly enough the character’s name is Creed. Creed is an odd ball who has the strangest thoughts.

Boredroom FIVE Minutes!

The icing on the cake is that Ed Helms, my personal favorite office character (Andy Bernard), plays banjo in the band.

"I lost a tooth, I married a whore!"

I’ve watched to one of the band’s videos and they’re pretty good. They are releasing an album soon called “bounce back”.

I wonder who will win a dundie for their musical contributions? Ed or Creed?

Are you experiencing post Avatar depression?

15 01 2010

Thanks Mr. James Cameron. Another one of your movies has found a way to depress thousands of viewers.

Avatar forums  have been blown up with people experiencing post Avatar depression. There are forum threads entitled, “Ways to cope with the depression of the dream of Pandora being intangible”.

Seriously?

"That blue lady sure is purdy"

This is a movie. I am not trying to poke fun at the serious problem of depression and suicide but really?  Grow up. All of us did not understand the smoke and mirrors of movie making at first. Anyone older than the age of 10 should understand on some level these are actors on a screen.

I wonder where they found these blue actors?

This was my first 3D movie experience. I imagine Avatar is most people’s first. Did it make me more attached to the movie?

No. Not really. It was a cool new way to showcase the art but I don’t feel it effected the story or increased the visual effect on me.

I understand this is probably blown way out of proportion by CNN and other news mediums. It only seems to be a select few who are experiencing these problems. Probably because the rest of the world understands that this is just a movie. This is make-believe (I love that phrase). Good movies suspend reality while telling their story. When the credits roll it is time to be a grown-up again.

I remember going to see Jurassic park in theaters with my Dad. I was five years old. This was my first PG-13 movie, and boy was it a big deal. This was not my first experience with crossing the lines of real and fantasy but it is my most vivid. My Dad was constantly saying, “It’s just a movie son”. It did not matter. It seemed so real. The scene where the lawyer was picked up off the toilet was both hilarious and terrifying to me at the time.

Much of my obsession/passion for movies I can attribute to this experience. For those 127 minutes  Mr. Spielberg had me captivated. Leaving the theater and venturing back into the real world was a strange feeling. I had no concept of time. The movie could have been days in length for all I knew. It felt like 5 minutes.

Truly great movies have this effect on people. It is no surprise to me that Avatar has grossed as much money as it has (especially considering how much it cost to make it( 1/2 of a billie [thats billion] for those who didn’t know)). It is truly a great movie. I applaud Mr. Cameron for his work. I too was  swept up in to the movie, but that is where I draw the line. Suicidal thoughts because you will never get to experience a place as amazing as James Cameron’s fantasy world? That is taking it too far.

The true message of the film could invoke some depression. The underlying political agenda. But i still don’t feel this movie should open anyone’s eyes to something they were not previously informed of.
